About

I started playing the guitar back in 2002 at the age of 14. My father had bought me a guitar earlier but I took no interest in learning to play it then, until I saw Santana play. This eventually led me to learning my first few chords, joining local bands to jam with, as well as playing in the church band. Being a curious person, I often took apart guitars, tried to repair and set them up. Time passed, and at the point I finished my diploma in college, I enrolled into Jeffrey Yong’s (Jeffrey Yong Guitars) guitar making course in 2009.

Jeffrey is an internationally acclaimed luthier, known for his use of alternative and tropical woods. This has gained him international recognition, although it has been a steep climb for him. Nevertheless he has managed to win awards for best sounding guitars- Blind Listening Test, in The Guild of American Luthiers 2006, Washington (USA), and Kirov Moscow International Guitar Making competition 2012 (Russia). See more at Wiki.

I built my first guitar mid-2009, an all Monkeypod OM model with Jeffrey. I stayed on to work and learn with him for another year, before leaving to explore other things. I took on different jobs which contributed to my current skillsets, I did advertising, display installations, photography, opened a wood workshop and ran my own guitar shop in this time. I was still actively repairing and setting up guitars at this time. I eventually gave those up and rejoined Jeff mid-2018. Since then, I have been an active luthier and apprentice full time to Jeff. I have built close to 60 instruments to date, at this point of writing; Jeffrey’s Guitars and my own included.

This has been an exciting journey, learning to use tropical and alternative woods to build guitars, many unseen before by the world. Jeff’s modern methods have taught me to build great guitars efficiently and effectively. I have also had the pleasure of joining him on expo trips to China, seeing what the rest of the world has to offer. Through travel, I have also had the privilege of meeting and spending time with many other world class luthiers, such as Bob Taylor and Andy Powers (Taylor Guitars), Karan Singh (Bigfoot Guitars), Vincent Woo (Rainie Guitars & Ukelele), Adam Chan, Keisuke Nishi (Keystone Instruments), Terry Tong, Hozen (Maestro Guitars), Abraham Wechter, Bradley Clark (Supernatural Pickups) to name a few.

Still learning and actively trying new methods and ideas, with new materials everyday, stay tuned to this site as I will share my journey here with you all. Thank you. All instruments are handcrafted by myself in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
