12 String Progress Pt.3

I am happy to report that his finally arrived at this stage. The guitar has been sanded, polished, had the bridge glued on, neck fitted, frets knocked in and is now ready for the rest of the hardware and to be strung up.

I’ve placed my orders for some packs of 12-String Sets, hopefully they get here in time for some fun soon. As usual, enjoy these pictures:

Shiny Top
Sides

The shine is much better compared to some of my previous work, however it is not entirely ‘flat’, as you would notice distortion in the reflection. That is more work in progress, but all in; pretty happy with what I’ve got now.

Fitting

The Stewmac U-Bridge Clamps would have to do this round as my regular clamps wouldn’t fit due to the extended length from the soundhole with the 12-fret joint design.

Fretted and ready!

I would now need to get the hardware fitted, carve the bone Nut and Saddles and get the intonation done. Hopefully get this up and playing real soon.

12 String Guitar Progress Pt.2

We are unfortunately back to an Enhanced Movement Control Order, so my work has again been pushed back. Just sharing some of the latest pictures on the lacquering progress. Polyurethane has been used, I much prefer this more durable finishing instead of the more traditional Nitrocellulose.

The above would have been the final round of fine sanding at 400 grit before the final coat of lacquer goes on.

What’s left is only the fine sanding to polish, and then buffing it up to a nice mirror shine. The bridge would then go on, as with the hardware and frets, and then this little beauty will begin to sing.

Till then, I hope you enjoy these pictures, and do stay safe.

12 String Guitar Progress

We are now back to a partial nationwide lockdown, hence the slower progress. Shaped the bridge and measured the exact bridge location of this guitar.

Looking forward to hearing it, made some changes to my regular top voicing, hoping to bring out a little more response out of this gorgeous Mango guitar top.

Supernatural Demo II

The following is a short demonstration of the Supernatural Pickups by a good friend of mine, John Paul. Headphones recommended!

Guitar is equipped with SuperClears and a Face Sensor.

Down to the last set of pickups now, looking forward to ordering a new batch of pickups soon.

Mango 12-String

Starting a new build, this round its an attempt at a 12-Stringer. Decided to pair Monkeypod back and sides with a Mango top. Mango is known for its sweeter, mellower tone, yet still having a spark of brightness that really brings out its clarity.

I have started building the rims and back a week ago, and started working on the top this week.

Really happy with how this one turned out. Used a small piece of Rengas (a local Cocobolo variant) for the Rosette. I love the red accent it gives, contrasting with the lighter, yellowish Mango top.

I’ve since cut the sound hole out, and binded it, glued on the X-brace, all the others braces, and the Soundport reinforcement. All left to dry overnight, and tomorrow we voice it, and glue the top on!
